Dr. Joe Pujol, interim dean of the College安徽快3开奖直播 of Education, Health and Human Studies at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named dean of the College安徽快3开奖直播 effective March 1.
Pujol was selected following a national search. He has been serving as interim dean since June 1 following the retirement of Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson, former dean of the College安徽快3开奖直播 of Education, Health and Human Studies.
The college comprises about 2,200 undergraduate majors in child and family studies; communication disorders; elementary, early and special education; kinesiology, nutrition and recreation; leadership, middle and secondary education; and nursing; and about 630 graduate students. The College安徽快3开奖直播 offers 14 community-based service-learning centers providing assistance to individuals across the lifespan and is recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for continuous innovation in learning, teaching and 安徽快3开奖直播 environment.
“I would like to thank President Vargas and Provost Godard for the confidence they have shown in me. I also appreciate the support I have had from the faculty and staff of the college,” Pujol said. “This is a college with a very broad scope — seven academic departments plus multiple auxiliaries such as the Autism Center, University School for Young Children, and sponsorship of a charter 安徽快3开奖直播. Godard said he is very pleased Pujol has accepted the offer to become Southeast’s next permanent Dean of the College安徽快3开奖直播 of Education, Health and Human Studies.

Prior to serving as interim dean, Pujol was chair of Southeast’s Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition and Recreation. Pujol, who also holds the rank of professor of exercise science, has been a Southeast faculty member for 24 years, 15 of those as department chair.
Pujol joined the Southeast faculty in 1996 as an assistant professor of exercise science. He was promoted to associate professor in 2001 and professor in 2005. In 2003, he was appointed chair of the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation. In 2018, he became chair of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Recreation after academic reorganization. During his time as chair, Pujol guided the department through the reaccreditation of athletic training, recreation and park administration, and physical education. The department received initial accreditation of sport management during his tenure, as well.
He holds a doctoral degree with a major in human performance studies with an emphasis in exercise physiology from the University of Alabama. He also holds a master’s degree in education with a major in health and physical education with an emphasis in exercise physiology and a Bachelor of Science in physical education, both from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Pujol has also served as director of the Human Performance Laboratory and Bone Density Laboratory. He has been involved in the development of new programs in Health Sciences and Nutrition and Exercise Science. He has served on numerous committees at the departmental, college and University level. He also has been honored with the Success in Scholarship, Service and Sports Award from the Department of Athletics, the Student Life Achievement Award from Southeast’s former Office of Student Development and the Outstanding Researcher by the Southeast’s former College安徽快3开奖直播 of Health and Human 安徽快3开奖直播.
Pujol has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and five book chapters and has presented more than 100 papers at professional conferences. Pujol is a Fellow of the American College安徽快3开奖直播 of Sports Medicine. He is a past-president of the Central States Chapter of the American College安徽快3开奖直播 of Sports Medicine and currently serves as executive director of that organization. He is associate editor of the Strength and Conditioning Journal. Pujol is a member of Cape West Rotary Club and served as president of that organization in 2016-2017. He currently serves as an assistant district governor for Rotary District 6060.
Pujol and his wife Kelley reside in Cape Girardeau. They have three daughters.
